The Gaff Car allows hoisting square top mainsails completely from the deck, without the normal requirement to go aloft above the boom to attach the square top to conventional headboard car toggles. Its single body, low profile design minimizes clutter, windage and weight. It includes unique features such as an automatic (heretofore tripline actuated) upstop, required for hoisting the halyard bullet into the car-mounted halyard lock or hoisting to unlock it. Also unique to the Alphalock Gaff Car is a mechanism that prevents inadvertent unlocking aloft.
